Cardinal Creeper

(Ipomoea horsfalliae)

Cardinal creeper is a fast climbing twining vine with beautiful crimson flowers and dark green glossy leaves. It’s perfect for growing up arbours or fences.

It’s related to sweet potato which you can see from the shape of the flowers, but it’s not edible.

It’s renowned for being very hard to propagate - it doesn’t produce seeds very often and the cuttings are hard to strike. A local nursery told me they propagate it using the moon cycles. I’ve always been curious about this but hey, whatever works!
